The competition for a job opportunity is intense these days. Interviews can often be traumatic for the interviewee. If you prepare carefully beforehand then you should be able to overcome the many hurdles an interviewer can place in your way. There is no need for any talent required to crack an interview. Building on certain skills will automatically improve your chances to crack it.

Tips on Cracking an Interview are given below

There are a few things the interviewee should work on, to easily land on that dream job:

1.Preparing the Ground:

Never think that it’s a difficult task. As they say, “YOU and only YOU can Win”.

2.The Pillars and the Columns:

Why do you want this job?

Emphasis on the positive aspects that have attracted you to applying for this position.
Do not mention negative aspects of your current job or the job in any question. Instead, say things like
“Everyone would love to work for a Reputable Organization like yours”
Sometimes you can even simply say that
” I am on the search for a Challenging Career and I am sure that this job will provide me that”.

What do you think are the requirements for this job?

leadership skills, Supervisory skills, Communication skills, Interpersonal skills, Problem-solving, Analytical skills, Creativity and imagination, etc.,

whatever you say as an answer for this say it confidently and positively. Think and rattle all your positive skills pertaining to the job.
Never talk about any irrelevant strengths.

“What can this Company offer that your Previous Company cannot offer?“

Do not mention money. Stress on opportunities for personal growth, new challenges, a better learning environment, etc. Tell them that the previous company helped you learn the ropes while this company can help you grow further.
This kind of reply does not degrade the previous company but at the same time satisfies the interviewer that his company is being considered better.

3.Building on the foundation:

The key thing is not to slacken during the entire interview and to be cautious not to contradict your answers.

You have not done this sort of job before, How will you cope /succeed?

Say that you are a person who aims to succeed at everything, do quote here some personal achievements and that you are determined and will do whatever it takes to get the job done.

What do you do on a day-to-day basis?

Even if your job is of mundane nature try and describe it in an interesting manner.

Why should we hire you?

Why should we hire you? is a classic question asked in an Interview if you are well-prepared job is yours.

Interview necessities
  • Add all the details that you think highlights a good fit between you and the job.
  •  Dig out all the personal positives your integrity, your calm nature, your upbringing, etc.

What do you think about your previous Company?

  •    You should stress the positive aspects of your last company saying that they were a good company to work for.
  •  Tell them about the training you received or the work-related experience you gained.
  •  Never mention anything negative. But then if the fact is the earlier company had a very bad reputation in the market, do not try to conceal this. Sometimes it is better, to tell the truth if it is the obvious one.

What do you think are your weakness?

Everybody has their own weakness. Overcoming your weakness is a great victory. You need not be very open about your weakness instead you could tell them about it in a positive way which would make a great impression about you.

You could easily tell them that these are your weakness:

  • Disorganized.
  • Sensitive.
  • Having trouble in telling “NO”.
  • Working too much.
  •  Being too honest.
  • Taking too many risks.
  • Overthinking the situation.

What do you think are your strength?

You can’t get too excited about this question and answer randomly. Maybe you are in an interview for technical skills and you say your greatest strength is Marketing and sales or vice versa. Now, this is not giving them any impression about you as it is an irrelevant strength for this job.

Some strengths you could mention are:

  • Creativity.
  •  Taking too many risks.
  •  Spontaneity.
  • Dedication.
  • Leadership.
  • Focused.
  • Ability to work as a team player and as an individual.

Some times your strength can be your weakness or vice-versa.

Ex: if you are willing to take too many risks you might end up bankrupt or if you are always too spontaneous you might end up doing something irrelevant.

After all, what are they trying to figure out in an interview:

Things to do before Interview
  • Your skill-set which are profession-oriented, the rest are general questions that we have already answered.
  • Your experience in the required field.
  • Personality plays an important role.
  • Character.
  • Ability to learn.
  • Your confidence.
  • Ability to handle stress.
  • Your willingness and so on.

Some tricky questions you might be asked:

“How long have you been looking for a new job?”

Try not to give them the impression that you were idle. You can say that you were enhancing your knowledge by attending certain courses.

Do you prefer to work in a small, medium or a large company?

Remember where you are and answer accordingly,
if the company interviewing you is small to medium-sized answer that you enjoy a close atmosphere with a good team spirit where the contribution from you can be maximum and you can build a good working relationship from CEO to employees.
At a large company say that you enjoy the stability of working for a large and well-established company where learning can be maximized.
